TANNING

Materials Needed:
A Scraper
Pelt Potion or Leather Lotion
A Pattern
A Pair of Tanning Shears
A Bodkin
Some Thread

Step 1:  After you have skinned your skin/hide/pelt, take out your scraper and SCRAPE SKIN/HIDE/PELT WITH SCRAPER CAREFUL/NORMAL/QUICK. Careful scraping has a 30 sec. rt, Normal scraping a 20 sec. rt and Quick a 10 sec. rt. Since we want the BEST scraped skin for our tanned piece, I suggest you use careful...it may take longer but there is a less chance of snagging and marring the scraped item. Should you snag or mar it and it becomes ruined, you must throw it out. Keep scraping until it says it looks as clean as you can make it.

Step 2:  Next, take out your potion/lotion. Remember pelt potions are only for pelts and leather lotion is only for hides/skins! POUR LOTION/POTION  ON SKIN/HIDE/PELT - Repeat until it says it's curing.  Set aside for ½ hour to 8 hours.

Step 3:  Wait....and wait....and wait some more. Every hour or so take it out and EXAMINE it, if it is ready it will become a tanned skin/hide/pelt. The wait time all depends on the size of the skin. Pelts seem to take a shorter time then do skins/hides.

Step 4: Take out your pattern and PUT PATTERN ON SKIN/HIDE/PELT. If you change your mind after you've put the pattern on...just RUB it and replace with a different pattern.

Step 5: Grab your tanning shears and CUT SKIN/HIDE/PELT. This will cut it into the necessary pieces. Some tanned items will require several tanned pieces. This is all dependant on the size of what you are making. A headband will use one piece, while leathers will take several.

Step 6: BUNDLE PIECES until you have a set.

Step 7: Get the thread and bodkin out and PUT THREAD IN BODKIN. You may have to do a couple times if you miss.

Step 8:  With the bodkin in one hand and the set in the other, POKE SET

Step 9:  Now, STRING SET until it finally finished. Congrats you just made your first tanned item!
