Clerics

"The way to Holiness is not for the lazy traveller or the faint of heart."
- Guild Leader Esuin

About Clerics
Spiritual warriors, following the holy path, clerics maintain direct communication with their gods and goddesses, allowing them to receive everything from divination to protection. The spiritual guides of the people of Elanthia, Clerics are wise men and women who are the most in touch with the Gods. A Cleric is a templar -- a holy warrior.  Not so much as a Paladin, but rather they do more of the gods work through magic, rather than combat.

Primary Skill - Magic - Clerics make use of the powers of holy magic.

Secondary Skill - Lore, Weapons

Ability - Direct communication with one's god or goddess allows the cleric to receive everything from divination to protection. Clerics are the only ones who can resurrect.

Limitation - Constant rituals are required to prove the clerics' faithfulness to their gods. Lack of faithfulness or touching something that may be deemed fouling to their spiritual purity will cause them to lose communication with their god.

Guild Crest - a pair of hands, one light and one dark, cradling a bridge that spans the two palms. Crossing the bridge are several people in various stages of life and death

Special Abilities

Devotion
Clerics are the primary conduit between mortals and the gods. A true Cleric must always be conscious to show respect and devotion to the deities of their choice. A Cleric in high favor with his or her gods will find that their magical abilities are enhanced. Likewise, a Cleric who shirks their duties and ignores the gods may find their abilities fading. There are dozens of ritual sequences and puzzles to choose from that allow a Cleric to show their devotion. These methods are as unique and varied as the gods themselves.

Communion
Clerics have the unique ability to COMMUNE with the gods in their time of need, calling upon the favor they have earned through their dutiful devotions. Utilizing these abilities will strain the Cleric's favor with their gods, so a wise Priest will continue to show their devotion through rituals, in turn allowing them to commune with the gods more often and for greater benefit.

Communes are abilities the gods have given clerics for the completion of holy quests.  Using the communes will lower you devotion level.  The amount is dependant on the commune used.  Consecrate ground costs the most devotion to use.   Oil bless is fairly taxing.  The rest of the communes don't seem to take as much.

Commune Quests

2nd circle - Tamsine's Blessing
Grants an offensive bonus to yourself or another.
Take a sirese flower to Tamsine's shrine. Put flower on the rock. Offer the flower.
To use, SPRINKLE [person] WITH VIAL (filled with holy water), and COMMUNE.

3rd circle - Eluned's Blessing
Grants a defensive bonus to yourself or another.
Go to the bridge south of reavers. Go east, se, go pool, meditate and you will turn into a fish. After you are a fish dive deep.
To use, light a lit incense and WAVE INCENSE AT [person] or self and COMMUNE.

8th circle - Kertigen's Blessing
'Oil Bless' bestows a strong blessing upon a weapon in effect sharpening it.
First make your way to the Oeblichar in Stone Clan.  if you don't know where it is, head a little north of rock trolls till you see a stoney trail.  Climb the trail, up, go door, say "grek" (password to enter Stone Clan), go door again, n,ne,n,n,nw,n,n,n,go stone, go oeblichar. Go to the Oeblichar . Jump into the pit and then make your way to the altar by going thru the rooms using the correct sequence. When you get inside, the only way out is to find the altar and pray, or spend enough time down there and you will become unconscious and wake up outside of it. you have to either look torch if there are torches above the doorways, or look floor if ther is a knotwork pattern in the floor.  if you don't do this in every room to find your way, then you will be returned to the oeblichar when you pray at the altar.  If you wish, this script will take you to the altar doing all the correct steps.  just enter the oeblichar, wait for the stun to wear off, stand, and start the script.  oeblichar.cmd. The correct direction can either be found by watching the lighting, or by looking at the floor.  Each room also has one letter worked into a design on the floor and it spells K-e-r-t-i-g-e-n.  You are on a very short timer and must do this quickly, or you will be tossed out on the floor beside the pit. Once you get to the altar, just pray once and wait.
To use, SPRINKLE [weapon] WITH VIAL (filled with holy oil) and COMMUNE.   Gives more strikes of bless on a weapon than the spell, also lasts longer than the spell version.  Sheathing the weapon or taking it to a forge for repairs does decrease the length of time that the bless will last. The weapon is more effective in the hands of a cleric.

12th circle - Hodierna's Blessing
Prevents the vitality loss and flow of blood from wounds for approximately 15 min. depending on your devotion, circle, and charisma.
Go to Hodierna's Solace which is on the south side of the crossing ferry.  From the docks, go:  s, s, s, go path, go clear, go arch.  open the book, and read it.  after you are done with the last page, climb the stairs, and get flame.
To use, SPRINKLE VIAL ON [self] (filled with holy water), SPRINKLE VIAL ON [self] (filled with holy oil), and COMMUNE.

15th circle - Eluned's Blessing
Grants a bonus to swimming by reducing/eliminating fatigue.
First you have to go to the Cape of Storms, and find the Empath Bartling. Go to the old lighthouse (go to middens like you are going to Fort Motte). To get there, from the outside the eastern gate of crossing go e, ne, n, n, e, se, ne, ne, e, and go plank, then follow it to the shed, ne, e, e, se, e, se, up, e, go shed, go arch, climb stair, up, go catwalk, ask the empath about Eluned and the sea and wait a bit...he'll start talking, When he's done speaking, go cat, down, climb stair, go arch, out, s, east, dive cliff, dive cliff. Here you have your vision, when it's over climb indents to get back to the top of the cliff.
To use, crush a fish and mix it with holy oil, apply to yourself and commune - You must prepare the balm as shown to you in your vision -- be sure to also use a chemical to help bond the balm.

20th circle - Meraud's Blessing
This blessing, also known as Consecrate Ground, prevents monsters from entering the area and makes it also a "safe zone", while greatly increasing the holy mana in the room. It is also said that the commune itself makes the room devotionally holy and some rituals can be performed on consecrated ground.
Go to the old broken tower above wolf clan and climb to the top. Touch the wolf statue.
To use, sprinkle holy water on yourself, wave lit incense at yourself and commune.

20th-25th circle - Ressurection Spell - Currently unavailable
FOR NOSTALGIA - Get a candle from the Haven cleric shop. During the night time, go to Zaulfang swamp area to the boar trail that goes south of the standing stones and go as far south and east as you can. When you hear the wailing ghost, go sound. This takes you into the spiny dyrachis hunting area and the altar is east.  At the altar, get chalice, light candle, get on the altar.  You will die and drop the candle, get it relit as soon as you can, then you can see the bridge. Put candle on bridge. This allows you to see both ends of the bridge and allows you to get back.

35th circle - Glythtide's Blessing
The cleric learns how to prepare the Saemaus Kiss Rose and the Be'ort  Tear Rose.  The Saemaus rose is used to bond the hearts of two people and will provide them with 20 more intimate verbs.  The Be'ort Rose and Be'ort Blade (purchased in Dirge for 7 - 9 plat kro) is used in the ceremony to sunder that bond.
To use the Saemaus Kiss Rose each mate/spouse kisses the rose, for the Be'ort Tear Rose, one of the couple curses the rose, the cleric then cuts it with the Be'ort Blade, and finally the cleric breaks the rose.
Go out the NE gate of Leth and head north a few rooms. When you see the room where all the foliage is a golden hue, pull bough, then go path.  Head to the gazebo (E and N).  Drink the wine and the gnome will come and speak to you.  After he finishes, go path to the garden and get petals, then go to the next room and get rue.  Go back to the gazebo and you will be told how to make the Saemus Kiss rose and the Be'ort Tear rose.  You will be able to return to this location to get more rue and more petals.
Crush the petals and mix with holy oil and dracon crystals to make rose attar, sprinkle attar on wild rose, place rose on altar and commune - Makes Saemus Kiss Rose
Burn the rue, sprinkle ashes on wild rose, place rose on altar and commune - Makes Be'ort Tear Rose
Before you talk to the halfling make sure to get the rose petals, dracon crystals, holy oil, bowl, stick, mortar and pestle. I think he will say something different if you dont have that stuff.
1. go to golden bough near bosque deriel
2. look bough
3. go path
4. go easterly to gazebo, go gazebo
5. search trap
6. go trap
7. listen to halfling, he'll kick you out when he is done
8. get some of the rose petals from the garden out back of the gazebo
9. crush rose petals in mortar
10. crush dracon crystals in mortar
11. put rose pulp and dracon powder in a small jar.
12. put holy oil in jar
13. mix rose pulp in jar with a stick
14. this makes attar
15. sprinkle attar on rose (any rose will do)
16. commune with rose in hand
17. went to guild, circled.
The halfling said to take the rose to the holy altars and offer it or something but i guess you dont need to do that to circle. You only need to do that along with the rest of the stuff he says if you ever want to marry someone.

Red or purple seems to be anything 5 ranks or over. From there it goes pink, yellow, orange (maybe), golden,
and finally silver nimbus being down 0 ranks

Making Prayer Beads

Making prayer beads is a new method of devotion, released on March 18, 2001.  In order to use them once completed, you need to meditate with them on consecrated ground, such as an altar or other holy area.  Here's the other information we have so far:

1) Forage a limb of any type of wood.
2) Sprinkle holy water or oil on it.
3) Bless it -- the limb is now consecrated.
4) With a knife, carve the limb into a large block.  (CARVE MY LIMB WITH MY KNIFE)
5) With a shaper, shape the block into the image of an animal. (SHAPE [block] TO [animal])
6) Once it is complete, you should be able to add the bead onto a silver chain -- the ones from the broken gweths should work -- each will hold 10 beads each.  They are then worn on the wrist.

The difficulty of carving the different woods is as follows: pine, maple, spruce, birch, fir, mahagony, willow, ash, crystal, alder, elm, walnut, oak, teak, rosewood, onyx, ebony.

Making the block is a very simple process -- the actual shaping is quite difficult and the following RT's are associated with the successes: 5, 8, 12, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35(finished).  You can appraise finished beads to assess their worth versus the maximum for that material type, as well as comparing that material type to overall quality.  This will help you gauge which materials are best and offer the most devotion/difficulty tradeoff.  There's also a hint that they might become attuned over time, similar to Moon Mages bones.

Much like origami, there are primers to make the beads and, if you study the primer, it will give you a bonus based on your scholarship.  Also, you may purchase pre-made blocks, as well as the other items needed, from the merchants located in Dirge, Riverhaven, Shard, and four other locations.
